Public Realm report April 2025 Annex Petitions

At full Council on 19th September 2024, the Council received two e-petitions regarding ‘Hull Road Park’ and ‘restore the condition of York’s Parks and Bar Walls’.

The petition on ‘Hull Road Park’ outlined that ‘over time this cherished spot has lost its charm due to lack of maintenance and changes made’. It was noted that ‘Hull Road park used to be teeming with life, weirs retained water which attracted ducks and other wildlife, creating an ecosystem that may generations enjoyed for many years; now there is hardly any water left and no ducks to feed’. The petitioners asked ‘by restoring our park’s beck into its former glory will not only bring back our beloved wildlife but also contribute positively towards community health. Let us preserve this piece of nature that holds so many memories for us locals while creating a safe environment for future generations too. Please sign the petition urging authorities to take immediate action on restoring Hull Road Park’s beck’.

The petition on ‘restore the condition of York’s Parks and Bar Walls’ outlined that the petitioners felt there has been a degradation of parks and bar walls and local neighbourhoods and that the cleanliness and maintenance of parks had decreased (including Rowntree’s Park lake and Hull Road Park beck). The petition outlined it was important to ‘protect parks and bar walls for our children and future generations’. The petition asked for ‘a city that is properly cared for, a city that respects and upholds its historical legacy while providing clean and pleasant green spaces for residents’..
